Atari has entered into a license agreement with Blockchain startup Animoca Brands to make Blockchain versions of two popular mobile games

Animoca Brands, a Hong Kong-based mobile game developer, has partnered with gaming giant Atari Interactive to develop blockchain versions of the popular mobile games RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch and Goon Squad.

According to a recent press release, the agreement grants Animoca Brands global rights (outside of Greater China) to produce and publish blockchain versions of both games.

RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch is a popular theme park management simulation game for iOS and Android devices, with over 19 million downloads globally, while Goon Squad is a card-based, multiplayer brawler video game for iOS and Android devices, launched in 2017, in which players navigate an underworld ruled by mobsters and fast-paced card battles in order to build the ultimate criminal empire.

In addition to the game development agreement, which extends through 2022, Animoca Brands and Atari have entered into a memorandum of understanding to develop a strategic partnership to explore additional opportunities in gaming and blockchain technology.

Frédéric Chesnais, the main shareholder and CEO of Atari Group, commented, “We are proud and delighted to enter into this long-term and strategic relationship with Animoca Brands, which also allows us to become a shareholder in one of the most exciting innovators in the world of decentralized gaming. We hope that this agreement paves the way to further cooperation on other Atari products.”

As we previously reported, Animoca recently added Ed Fries, the creator of Microsoft Studios and co-founder of the Xbox project, as an advisor where he will focus on enhancing Animoca Brands’ operational base and mobile blockchain development capabilities.

Animoca expects to publish the blockchain versions of the games in the second half of 2019.
