Microsoft has released a serverless Blockchain -powered Azure development kit

If you have been following blockchain news, there is a good chance you have heard of the cloud services platform ‘Microsoft Azure.’ Basically, it is a cloud computing service that works similar to the Google cloud platform and the Amazon Web Services. However, Microsoft Azure is a platform based on blockchain that enables businesses to create, deploy and manage dApps for specific use cases in the public cloud.

According to an official announcement published Nov. 15, Microsoft has launched a blockchain-powered Azure development kit. Speaking on the launch of the kit, the Directory of Business Innovation at Microsoft Marc Mercuri said:

“The “Azure Blockchain Development Kit” extends the capabilities of our blockchain developer templates and Azure Blockchain Workbench, which incorporates Azure services for key management, off-chain identity and data, monitoring, and messaging APIs into a reference architecture that can be used to rapidly build blockchain-based applications.”

According to Microsoft, the new kit will enable enterprises to create their own dApps. The launch will focus on:

  • Deploying blockchain networks and smart contracts
  • Integrating data systems
  • Connecting Interfaces

Besides, the kit will offer voice and SMS interfaces for support for mobile clients like iOS and Android, integration with the Internet of Things (IoT), tracking and supply chain solutions among other things.

Dubbed “end to end” blockchain solution, Microsoft said its new kit would be compatible with other blockchains, including bitcoin and Ethereum.

The Microsoft distributed ledger comes with a white paper to guide developers on how to create and integrate their distributed applications with the Azus.

Though blockchain is considered to be in its infancy, it is touted as one of the most disruptive technologies of the 21st century. It can securely store vital data and protect it from manipulation.

Microsoft is not the only technology giant that has jumped on the blockchain bandwagon. Google, Amazon, and IBM recently unveiled similar blockchain-based kits for enterprises.
